What is 95th percentile billing?

95th percentile billing — sometimes referred to as burstable billing — allows you to peak above your transit commit without needing to increase your Committed Data Rate (CDR).

For example, if you had a 100Mbps transit commit on a 1Gbps port, you’d be able to burst to the full 1Gbps port speed whenever you like, and only the bottom 95% of throughput samples would be utilised in calculating your monthly average. This would be your 95th percentile average, and provided this sits at or below your transit commit, you’d see no overages.

We disregard the top 5% of your throughput samples, which allows for a certain level of peak overuse without penalty.
