How do I remote access my server(s) using SSH?

Secure SHell (SSH) is a protocol to access your Dedicated Server remotely. By logging on to your server using SSH, you can manage your directories and files directly on a command line level. SSH provides strong authentication and secure communications over nonsecure channels. It is intended as a replacement for telnet, rlogin, and rsh.

?

In order to connect to your Dedicated Server, you need an SSH client (on UNIX or Linux machines, this utility is normally included). If you would like to connect to your server from a Windows machine, you can use a program such as PuTTY. To download the programme and the documentation either visit Putty or go to Downloads in the Netwise Hosting Customer Portal. To remotely log on to your Dedicated Server proceed as follows:

1.) Start your SSH client
2.) Enter the server name or IP address in the host field
3.) Enter "root" as the username
4.) Enter the master password of your Dedicated Server package

?

You can find the login information in your Service Information email that you received after signing up. Please make sure that no characters are displayed on your SSH screen when entering your password, if the password does show then it is not being transmitted securely.
